Rugby highlight for Saracens youngsters
It will be the biggest weekend of rugby that fourteen 10-year-old players have ever experienced.
Members of the under-10 Saracens team will travel by bus from Rangiora to Queenstown on September 29 for the Queenstown Junior Rugby Festival, an annual tournament in which junior players from many parts of the country – and the world – meet in sportsmanship, friendship and enjoyment of rugby.
For most of the Saracens players, this will be their first sports trip away and, from it, they will create memories that will last a lifetime.
The team will play rugby throughout Saturday for a place in Sunday’s finals before participating in a prize giving ceremony.
The youngsters will be representing Saracens RFC which was formed in 2006 with the amalgamation of Rangiora RFC and Southbrook RFC, leaving Saracens the only rugby club in Rangiora.
Since the inaugural season, 21 teams have represented the club in almost every grade and division of the North Canterbury Rugby competition. Saracens completed a highly successful 2017 season, winning the Division 1, Division 2 and Under-16 grand finals, providing great inspiration to the club’s young junior teams, and inspiring attitudes of success, support, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Saracens is proud of its under-10 team which is full of committed, enthusiastic players who love rugby and play with pride in their club and region.
Keen to train and eager to compete, the team is committed to doing its sponsors and North Canterbury proud by their play and attitude throughout the Queenstown tournament.
The young team is grateful for the support accorded it by the North Canterbury community, acknowledging and thanking its sponsors and contributors whose generosity has paid for travel, accommodation, food and the smart jacket they will wear with pride throughout the tournament.
The fundraising effort was kicked off with an entertaining quiz night at local bar and restaurant The Five Stags, where entertainment and an auction packed with goodies provided a fun and competitive night.
The club thanks its gold sponsors Mussons Logistics, Wallboard and Insulation Supplies, Plumbing World, Easylawn, Mike Greer Homes North Canterbury, Devon Construction, and Mackay Electrical.
It is grateful, too, to all the other sponsors detailed beneath players’ pictures below.
