New design studio gives lift to Jennian Homes
Anew design centre where people can compare a huge range of the latest building components and accessories has helped give Jennian Homes one of its strongest sales months in years, as the long-established building firm bucks residential trends with its own mini boom.
Studio J, as the design centre is called, is part of Jennian Homes’ new Canterbury headquarters on Main South Rd, Sockburn.
There, visitors can explore a plethora of kitchenware and bathroom products, flooring options and examples of materials used in countless successful builds.
The Canterbury North franchise is now sailing past any talk of a downturn in residential building demand with what is likely its strongest month to date, co-owner Dwayne Prendergast says.
Also bolstering the business is an exceptionally strong reputation – Jennian Homes marks its 35th anniversary this year having never failed to complete a build – as well as access to what Dwayne considers the region’s top building crew.
‘‘We’re running a very good ship. Homes are being finished in excellent condition, so clientele are really happy and they’re telling other people.
‘‘We’re also lucky to have an exceptionally good trade base,’’ Dwayne says.
A new showhome set to open this Labour Weekend in Rolleston will be followed by another in Rangiora around Christmas. However, people can also use the Sockburn design centre much as they would a showhome, browsing the options in a relaxed and helpful environment.
Vanities, showers, tapware, benchtops, drawer handles, carpets, vinyl and many more finishing touches feature in the newly created studio, from which people can mix and match items to their liking.
Adaptability is one of the cornerstones of the Jennian Homes’ approach and as such the company is always ready to work closely with clients on a bespoke build, Dwayne says.
The more than 50 existing house plans on the Jennian Homes website should always be considered a starting point for further customisation, he adds.
‘‘If people want to use particular items or their own electrician or plumber, we can do that. Flexibility is something we really strive for.’’
Key to the many successful builds by Jennian Homes in North Canterbury is a hugely experienced management team comprising staff who know what it’s like to be on the tools as well as in the office.
Dwayne and his business partner, Paul Jenkins, have more than 50 years’ combined experience in the industry.
For clients, this provides certainty, as it means information given rarely has to be revisited.
‘‘We make a lot of effort to understand the client’s budget up front and to make everything an easy ride for them,’’ Dwayne says.
Backing their builds are a 36-month maintenance warranty – three times the industry standard – and a 10-year Master Build Guarantee, ensuring clients are covered for any eventuality.
