NC teams go to Qtown tour­na­ment


Sev­eral North Can­ter­bury ju­nior teams are head­ing to the New Zea­land Ju­nior Rugby Fes­ti­val in Queen­stown this week­end.

The teams will all ar­rive in Queen­stown to­day ahead of the the round robin ac­tion on Satur­day and then the fi­nals on Sun­day.

The tour­na­ment fea­tures teams from through­out the coun­try and some from across the Tas­man

Ash­ley, Ka­iapoi, and Sara­cens are all send­ing U10 sides with three Christchurch teams to go up against.

Ash­ley, who took out the U10 grade last year, and Ohoka are in the U11 grade, which fea­tures two teams from New South Wales.

Ohoka are also send­ing an U12 side south while the Ohoka U13s went to the North Is­land tour­na­ment in Taupo last week­end. While un­able to se­cure a win, they pro­duced some strong per­for­mances.

Mean­while, the Can­ter­bury Coun­try U18s play the New Zea­land Bar­bar­ian Area Schools at South­brook at mid­day.

The Bar­bar­ians team was se­lected at the Na­tional Area Schools Sport Tour­na­ment in Whangarei in July, with Flynn Crean, Blair Nor­ton (Hurunui Col­lege), An­gus Johns (Amuri Area School) and Henry Leef (Che­viot Area School) se­lected.

The Can­ter­bury Coun­try De­vel­op­ment side, which played the Bar­bar­ians midweek, play the Can­ter­bury Metro Cav­a­liers at 1:30pm at the same venue.

The Coun­try 18s have com­pleted their pre-tour­na­ment pool games ahead of next week­ends’ South Is­land U18 Tour­na­ment fi­nals week­end in Christchurch.

Coun­try U15 also play at South­brook against Can­ter­bury Metro Black at 10:30am.

The Coun­try U16s, U14s and U13s are in Blen­heim to play Marl­bor­ough.

The Coun­try U16s then head to the South Is­land U16 Tour­na­ment fi­nals week­end in Oa­maru.

The Coun­try U48kg and U65kg have the South Is­land Tour­na­ment in Dunedin on Satur­day and Sun­day.


The Sara­cens and Ka­iapoi U10s sides are off to the New Zea­land Ju­nior Rugby Fes­ti­val in Queen­stown.
