NC teams go to Qtown tournament
Several North Canterbury junior teams are heading to the New Zealand Junior Rugby Festival in Queenstown this weekend.
The teams will all arrive in Queenstown today ahead of the the round robin action on Saturday and then the finals on Sunday.
The tournament features teams from throughout the country and some from across the Tasman
Ashley, Kaiapoi, and Saracens are all sending U10 sides with three Christchurch teams to go up against.
Ashley, who took out the U10 grade last year, and Ohoka are in the U11 grade, which features two teams from New South Wales.
Ohoka are also sending an U12 side south while the Ohoka U13s went to the North Island tournament in Taupo last weekend. While unable to secure a win, they produced some strong performances.
Meanwhile, the Canterbury Country U18s play the New Zealand Barbarian Area Schools at Southbrook at midday.
The Barbarians team was selected at the National Area Schools Sport Tournament in Whangarei in July, with Flynn Crean, Blair Norton (Hurunui College), Angus Johns (Amuri Area School) and Henry Leef (Cheviot Area School) selected.
The Canterbury Country Development side, which played the Barbarians midweek, play the Canterbury Metro Cavaliers at 1:30pm at the same venue.
The Country 18s have completed their pre-tournament pool games ahead of next weekends’ South Island U18 Tournament finals weekend in Christchurch.
Country U15 also play at Southbrook against Canterbury Metro Black at 10:30am.
The Country U16s, U14s and U13s are in Blenheim to play Marlborough.
The Country U16s then head to the South Island U16 Tournament finals weekend in Oamaru.
The Country U48kg and U65kg have the South Island Tournament in Dunedin on Saturday and Sunday.
The Saracens and Kaiapoi U10s sides are off to the New Zealand Junior Rugby Festival in Queenstown.
