Company comes to town

Following a sell-out production of The Sound of Music, the North Canterbury Musical Society is preparing its second offering to the stage of the Rangiora Town Hall.

Balancing their performance of the family-friendly classic in May, NCMS will open on November 2 with Stephen Sondheim ‘s Company, a wry and witty dash of distinctly adult humour.

The story features 35-year-old Bobby, living single in 1970s New York. Surrounded by the good intentions and chaotic relationships of his married friends, Bobby becomes a less than willing witness to the magic and mayhem of commitment.

Add three girlfriends, and everyone has an opinion on what’s best for Bobby – except maybe Bobby himself. Sondheim’s original Broadway production of Company made history with a record-breaking 12 Tony nominations in 1971, of which it won six, including best musical. NCMS’ cast features returning favourites from the group’s previous shows, as well as seasoned talent from a variety of recent productions around the region.
