North Can­ter­bury Ju­nior Ten­nis ti­tles de­cided

Brag­ging rights and spots in the rep­re­sen­ta­tive teams went on the line at the North Can­ter­bury Ju­nior Ten­nis Tour­na­ment at week­end.

Over 50 ju­nior play­ers com­peted n the the sin­gles cham­pi­onships across the four grades at six venues on Satur­day.

The ti­tles were claimed by Mar­cus Leopold (10 boys), Hannah Lawler, (10 girls), Ed David­son (12 boys), Lau­ren Whit­taker (12 girls), Lo­gan Ben­son (14 boys), Evie Howe (14 girls), Ethan Hat­trill (16 boys) and Mya Wil­liamson (16 girls).

The top four from each age group also earned se­lec­tion for the first rep­re­sen­ta­tive fix­ture against Ellesmere on Novem­ber 27.

With the ti­tles de­cided and ini­tial rank­ings sorted, the open chal­lenge fort­night starts on Tues­day, al­low­ing play­ers the right to chal­lenge for a place in the rep team.

On Sun­day, the dou­bles and mixed dou­bles were then played at the Ran­giora Ten­nis Club.

Mean­while in Can­ter­bury Coun­try di­vi­sion 1 in­ter­club, both North Can­ter­bury sides lost on Satur­day.

NC Blue nar­rowly lost to Kir­wee Black 7-9 in Ka­iapoi while NC White went down to West Mel­ton 4-12.

In North Can­ter­bury Se­nior B, Southbrook Blue swept Ran­giora 8-0 to main­tain top spot.
