Win eludes NC Blue on count­back

North Can­ter­bury Blue went close to claiming a first win in the Can­ter­bury Coun­try Com­bined di­vi­sion 1 in­ter­club ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion, but lost on count­back against Preb­ble­ton-Lin­coln on Satur­day.

The two sides won eight games each on the Preb­ble­ton courts but on a count­back on games the hosts were up 101-85 to take the win.

North Can­ter­bury White were at home to top-of-the-ta­ble Kir­wee Gold in Wood­end and went down 5-11 af­ter a dom­i­nant dis­play from the Kir­wee Gold women.

In North Can­ter­bury Se­nior B, South­brook teams con­tin­ued to dom­i­nate.

South­brook Blue main­tained their sta­tus at the top of the ta­ble with a 5-3 win over Fern­side.

South­brook Gold are hot on their heels in sec­ond af­ter beat­ing Kaiapoi 8-0. Ran­giora had the bye.

In pres­i­dents 1, Kaiapoi had a 9-0 win over Glen­mark North to ex­tend their lead at the top of the lad­der.

Am­ber­ley beat Ashley 9-0 to have the two sides draw level in sec­ond place over­all.

It’s a lot closer in pres­i­dents 2, with Cust’s 9-0 win over Wood­end al­low­ing them to keep the lead.
