The first hi-po version of the new E-Class is the Mercedes-AMG E 43. The looks are extremely restrained but the E 43 gets a 295kW biturbo 3.0-litre V6 and will make every horse count with standard 4MATIC AWD. It runs a sporty 31:69 front:rear torque split, while the V6 offers 520Nm of torque. The E 43 is said to weigh 1756kg and has nine gears which equates to 0-100km/h in 4.6sec and a claimed average of 8.3L/100km. It runs on 19-inch alloys, 20s are optional, and has a sports-tuned air suspension set-up. Expect it here in September.
Honda’s Clarity Fuel Cell is now on sale in Japan. It costs 7,660,000 yen ($NZ99,727), weighs 1890kg, and is powered by a 130kW/300Nm electric motor. The 141L hydrogen tank is said to give a range of 750km. They reckon a refill takes three minutes, if you can find a filling station. There is also a converter kit available for the car which turns it into a source of electricity for your house. A Clarity with a full tank is said to power an average house for one week.
