If your heap is drenched, cover it with a lid. Wet but not sod­den is what you want for your com­post to keep work­ing in win­ter. Warmth is good too, so choose the site well be­fore start­ing a new heap now. Don’t worry if ex­ist­ing com­post heaps are al­ready soggy – just add dry ma­te­rial and fling a tar­pau­lin over the top to keep most of the rain out.
