PLASTER CAST LEAVES

NZ Gardener - Gifts from the Gardens - - Crafts -

Make a garden sculpture or leafy dish for indoors with plaster of Paris. Pick large leaves from the garden that have prominent veins and markings on the underside. Mix the plaster of Paris with water as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Place your leaf upside down on a flat surface (lay down plastic first to keep it clean) and spoon the plaster of Paris over the leaf so it’s about ¼ inch (6mm) thick. Allow the plaster to set then peel off the leaf. Paint your leaf as desired. Use a waterproof sealer if placing outside.

Twigs, leaves, flowers and other materials from nature make quite an impression when pressed into clay or plaster.
