Persicaria microcephala

NZ Gardener - - In Season -

‘Red Dragon’ has more costume changes than Lady Gaga in concert. A knotweed but not a dangerous one, the leaves look their best when they are freshly emerging (they get a bit tall and floppy later on), so cut the plant back twice a year just as the rather weedy cream flower spikes emerge.

Feed and water, and this plant will oblige with a set of new clothes every time. (Marshwood Gardens)
