Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘Purpurea’

NZ Gardener - - In Season -

The dull leaves take on rich, red claret tones as the lime green flower spikes extend and emerge in spring. This short-lived plant prefers cooler climes and can be prone to mildew, but it comes true from seed and you can take softwood cuttings any time from midsummer. Euphorbias are useful as evergreen interest in containers; complement them with trailing ivy, pansies and spring bulbs.
