Wisteria and roses

NZ Gardener - - In Season -

An epic duo for a spring wall or pergola is to allow the scented mauve Wisteria sinensis to twine and fight it out with the thornless rose Rosa banksiae.

This combination of mauve against soft lemon is a classic at any time of the year but you will need lots of space to let them play. Prune the rose straight after flowering in spring while leaving the wisteria to be tackled in summer.
