Avo­ca­dos do not fully ripen un­til after be­ing picked: ripe fruit should be ready to eat five or 10 days after that. But pick be­fore the fruit is ma­ture, and it will stay rock hard and never ripen. ’Hass’ avo­ca­dos (one of the most com­mon va­ri­eties here) should be ready now, but to check the fruit on your tree, pick one. If it isn’t ed­i­ble in 10 days, then wait!
