Blue­ber­ries suc­cess in high value exports

Blue­ber­ries was a New Zealand stand­out suc­cess in high value fruit exports with 2016 exports of 1,900 tonnes val­ued at $41 mil­lion – fresh, chilled and frozen.

The lat­est is­sue of Fresh Facts states that this com­pares with 2016 blue­berry im­ports of 2,400 tonnes and a cif value of $13 mil­lion.

New Zealand’s 240 berryfruit grow­ers pro­duced 24,074 tonnes in to­tal of fresh fruit in 2016 with $48.4 mil­lion sold do­mes­ti­cally and $46.4 mil­lion ex­ported.

Straw­berry grow­ers sold $21.3 mil­lion of fresh fruit in New Zealand ex­ported $9.8 mil­lion.
