Blueberries success in high value exports
Blueberries was a New Zealand standout success in high value fruit exports with 2016 exports of 1,900 tonnes valued at $41 million – fresh, chilled and frozen.
The latest issue of Fresh Facts states that this compares with 2016 blueberry imports of 2,400 tonnes and a cif value of $13 million.
New Zealand’s 240 berryfruit growers produced 24,074 tonnes in total of fresh fruit in 2016 with $48.4 million sold domestically and $46.4 million exported.
Strawberry growers sold $21.3 million of fresh fruit in New Zealand exported $9.8 million.
