Get out there and shine _______________________________

Businesses need to remember they are not only trading and operating in New Zealand but on the global stage, keynote speaker Martin Snedden told the Potatoes New Zealand Conference.

NZ Grower - - Election 2017 -

“You’ve got to have the confidence to go out there and shine,” he said.

“You’re an important part of the economy and it’s important that you grow internationally.”

The former lawyer and world class cricketer talked of the challenge, as chief executive of Rugby New Zealand, of staging the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

“We built it from a rugby story to a community story because there was a stadium of four million hosts,” he said.

Decisions had to be made which were consistent with that story but allowed local communities to bring themselves alive in their own way.

“The potato industry has had a lot of success but you have to be aspirational to grab hold of it,” he said.

It will take courage, determination and resilience to make sure those throughout the industry have a story that is consistent and easy for people to identify with.

“It won’t go in a straight line but you can take confidence from the incredibly strong platform you’ve already got.”
