PRIMARY GROWTH PARTNERSHIP (PGP) APPLICATION
The Vegetable Research & Innovation Board initiated a long term Sustainable pest and disease management program for the horticulture sector and a PGP funding application that is being coordinated by Horticulture NZ. If the PGP application is successful then this programme will register new products to replace those that are to be phased out. This $14.7m project spread over the next 7 years will address the long-term challenges and develop a future strategy for growers around crop protection compounds and resistance management.
Vegetables NZ Inc. along with a number of other fruit, vegetable, arable and industry sectors are jointly providing support funding for the PGP program and if the application is successful it will seek to:
• Deliver access to a wider range of agrichemicals faster
• Manage agrichemical use to reduce resistance
• Incorporate bio pesticides into pest management programmes
