The South Coast Cavalcade is one of the oldest cavalcades in Southland. Originally started by some of the elders of the Riverton equestrian community as a fundraising event for the Southland Festival of the Horse show in 1996, the cavalcade takes place annually in late October, trekking over some spectacular country. While the show only lasted for two years, the cavalcade has continued. Open to riders 16 years and over, it’s run over two days with one night spent camping. Meals are provided, usually with local groups called in to do the catering, and every year it’s over new terrain. For more information, contact president Kerrin Price on 027 3044592.
