A shandy is an ex­cel­lent thirst quencher and us­ing a lager en­sures this drink is crisp and re­fresh­ing.

4 lemons

1 ta­ble­spoon sugar

750ml lager, chilled

750ml gin­ger beer, chilled

(we used Bund­aberg) Mint sprigs

Cut 2 of the lemons into wedges and sprin­kle sugar over the cut sides. Place the slices on a hot, lightly oiled bar­be­cue or grill plate and cook on both sides un­til lightly caramelise­d.

In a large jug com­bine the juice from the re­main­ing lemons with the chilled larger and gin­ger beer. Add the grilled le­mon slices and a few mint sprigs be­fore serv­ing. This drink is best served well chilled, with­out any ice. Makes 1.5 litres, serves 4-6
