NZ House & Garden - - BEHIND THE SCENES -

Mel Chesneau is all too familiar with packing up her young family and moving countries. They moved here from Sydney five and half years ago for her husband’s work. This month they are doing it again, albeit a little further this time, to Stockholm, Sweden. After a couple of years contributing to our Antenna News section (see page 44), this will be the final month Mel joins us before she begins her new life abroad. Being based in the heart of Scandinavia is sure to be an endless source of inspiration for her interior and lifestyle blog, styledcan She intends to take full advantage of her location, visiting design trade shows and interiors stores and keeping up with local designers and trends, so fingers crossed we’ll still hear from her now and again.

One of an “enormous, loud and mad” West Coast family, Lisa moved to Dunedin when she was seven. Pulling up to her new home in the little city she loved way before it became cool, she saw snow fall for the first time. After stints as a bouncer, barista, waitress, teacher and theatrical dogsbody, she gave writing a go and found her calling. She spends her downtime catching waves on her paddleboard, reshuffling the art on the wall to squeeze in just one more piece from a local exhibition, and drinking Emerson’s Taieri George beer. “Or doing all three simultaneously,” she says, “because that’s how they roll in the south, the mad buggers.” Snow still amazes her. See Lisa’s take on what’s hot right now in Dunedin in Urban Eye on page 165.
