Cook Fast Eat Well

NZ House & Garden - - ATR,BOOKS & BLOGS -

By Sue Quinn, Allen & Unwin, $39.99, 255 pages, paperback

If you are one of those cooks whose quick and easy repertoire consists of eggs three ways and spaghetti on toast, this book is for you. Food writer Sue Quinn’s Cook Fast Eat Well demonstrates how healthy, tasty meals can be whipped up in 10 minutes using only five ingredients. The key is well-chosen ingredients, and the first two pages are dedicated to stocking the pantry for super-quick cooking. There are five chapters in the book: light bites; salads and soups; pasta; meat, poultry and fish; and sweet things. I tested two recipes from each chapter and found most of the dishes could be completed within 10 minutes. I confess to enhancing one of the soups but overall the dishes were delicious. My fastest favourites? Fettuccini with Alfredo Sauce, Roast Capsicum Soup and Chocolate Cake in a Mug. And the unexpected delight? Almost no mess to clean up.
