NZ House & Garden - - HOMES - Charlie McCormick and Ben Pentreath

THE FIRST THING I DO WHEN I ARRIVE FROM LONDON: Is walk around the garden and see all the beautiful things that Charlie has created there. ( Ben)

MY DECORATING STYLE: English country house with a dash of modernism. I like interiors that are rich, beautifully coloured and timeless. ( Ben)

IS THE HOUSE ECO-FRIENDLY: Not in any sense at all! It has solid uninsulated walls, single-glazed windows and oil-powered heating. But, it is about 200 years old and counting. So compared to the “eco-friendly” houses that get knocked down after 50 years it is winning the energy equation. It will be probably stand for the next 200 years without too much change. ( Ben)

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I’VE EVER RECEIVED: I love the Chinese proverb: “If you want to be happy for an hour, get drunk. If you want to be happy forever, create a garden.” I couldn’t agree more. ( Charlie)
