Shear connection

NZ Life & Leisure - - Starting Over -

Florence has connected with New Zealand very well during her posting, often aided by NZ Life & Leisure. One memorable occasion came when she spent a week in Invercargill last year. She was cheering the French team at the World Shearing Championships, supporting its successful bid to host the 2019 champs in Le Dorat, a small town in the heart of France. She had half of each day free so turned to the Insider’s Guide which included that part of the country. “I stayed in a bedand- breakfast the issue recommended, and I went to Riversdale looking for the best cheese roll in the recommended coffee shop. “But the coffee shop had moved so I went along the main street, asking where the café had gone. I found it, took a picture and had my cheese roll. It was good but, frankly speaking, cheese rolls aren’t as good as a croque monsieur.” The following month, at the Golden Shears in Masterton, Florence had the chance to jump up on the platform herself, clad in official black pants and blue singlet, and take over the handpiece. “Afterwards, your hands are really soft because of the lanolin. People were surprised to see a woman, and an ambassador, up there doing it. It was quite an experience.”
