1 EASY WAY TO CHEER UP YOUR TASTEBUDS IN WINTER

NZ Lifestyle Block - - Grow & Tell -

If winter weather is getting you down think of the citrus family and eat plenty. Eating lots of these sunshine coloured fruit can only be good for us.

At this time of year there is plenty of choice with lemons, mandarins, lime and lemonade all ready over winter. Their glowing colours in the garden create bright and vibrant beauty on a dull day.

Citrus are susceptible to both frost and dry so you need protection for one and regular water for the other (something you hopefully remembered to do in the middle of summer). They are also gross feeders and need a good dollop of food in spring and mid-summer; think a sackful at least, of animal manures.

Applying lime in winter is good practice.
