WHILE LOTS of vegetables can be planted at this time of year, the key for us is the triumvirate: corn, beans and pumpkin.

These are known as the ‘Three Sisters’ when planted together, and they were of huge importance to Native American tribes. The corn provides support, the beans fix nitrogen, and the pumpkin or squash generate a ground-covering mulch.

We don’t grow them in the traditional manner, but we do consider them important plants and value their contribution to our health.
