A farm for the speedsters

NZ Lifestyle Block - - Notebook -

MOST PEOPLE turn their blocks into a peaceful haven of livestock, trees, gardens and vegetable beds. But race driver Rod Millen wanted something a little different.

So he created a winding driveway up the hill to the family home on his 60ha, ocean-front estate in Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula, and then started the Leadfoot Festival, where the driveway becomes a hill climb race track.

The Leadfoot Festival brings together a spectacular array of some the world’s finest competition cars and motorcycles, from classic formula and road race cars to off-road machines and vintage motorcycles. Visitors get a one-of-a-kind experience featuring unparalleled access to the competitors, pits and race vehicles. Rod Millen personally hand selects championship racers from around the world to receive the coveted invitation to participate in the Leadfoot Festival. There are also collections of celebrated vintage cars and bikes on display throughout the weekend.
