We ate eels from the creek, wild goat and rabbits, we had watercress and NZ taro that my father planted in streams. We ate taraire berries, totara berries – which were very sweet – sweet tanekaha berries, wild fuchsia berries and tea tree berries which were very astringent-tasting.
