The 1 big lesson I’ve learned from keeping a daily diary
Keeping this diary has provided me and everyone else with a public history of my farming education, the experience I’ve gained during the last 15 years. The only editing I’ve done of early material has been to correct factual errors.
That I managed my cattle so poorly in many of the early years is an uncomfortable reality. Anyone I spoke with at that time told me “you can run more animals on that much land.” They were wrong, and looking back at the photographs of the cattle of those times has always served as a very strong warning against pushing things too far again.
I sometimes imagined a website audience of thousands developing over time but came to realise there’s not that much interest in rural living, or perhaps in my particular way of reporting it. Some people read my website for the reasons I originally created it, because it keeps them in touch with a rural life they
