River Cottage inspiration
very month, groups of foodies turn up at Soggy Bottom to learn how to craft their own meat products, from the basics of sausage making, to curing and smoking meat. Jono says it was inspired by the memorable time he enjoyed at River Cottage.
“It was one of those cold frosty sunny days and they took us to the farmhouse and welcomed us into this yurt with fresh coffee and a fresh flapjack and I just thought ‘this is so slick, there’s a market for this in New Zealand, there’s gotta be.’
“I quite like running courses. You get such interesting people and such a diverse range of people: you might have a farmer and you might have an electrician, you might have a hunter but everyone is really into food, you spend all day talking about food, it’s great.”
