How to avoid dirty eggs

NZ Lifestyle Block - - Your Poultry -

It is important to keep nest boxes clean so eggs don’t become soiled. Never let hens sleep in laying areas as most bird’s droppingsdropping are passed at night, resultingresultin in the nests becoming caked with manure. To prevent this fromfr happening, initially it may be necessary to close off nes nest boxes in the evenings before birds roost, and then reopen themthe when they are asleep for theth night. After a week or two the birds will have formed their own roosting habits and should not seek the nests at night. Eggs should be collected twice a day to ensure freshness, cleaner eggs and minimise the opportunity for egg eating.
