Tip of the month

-

Storing your poultry feed in a cool dry place will help to ensure it remains fit for purpose for up to four months. However, storing it for an extended time means you could lose some of its nutritional value. It pays to buy enough to cover your needs for about a month at a time. Nutrient-filled poultry feed can be very popular with rodents, especially in winter. Store feed in a secure container. Steel is best as a determined rat can chew its way through thick plastic bins. A nolonger-running fridge or freezer makes for good storage. If feed goes mouldy, your storage container may be letting in moisture or the feed could be stored in an area subject to variation in temperature (eg, where the sun shines on it for part of the day). Don’t feed mouldy food to your flock or other animals.
