Why fallowing may fail

NZ Lifestyle Block - - Self- Sufficiency -

It is one thing to walk through your fallowing paddocks to pull out the odd ragwort. It’s another if you have barley grass and buttercup taking over.

Fallowing is a great technique if you have a good-quality pasture. The increased density of the grasses will crowd out many weeds and prevent the seeds of annual weeds finding bare earth to germinate in.

Overgrazed paddocks with a lot of weeds and/or undesirable grasses won’t do well. You need to resow first with desirable herbs and grasses.
