Trevor Cottingham is a man who likes to do things a little differently — case in point, his Toyota Carina TA63 powered by a 3T-GTE engine. There are big plans in the works to get some serious grunt out of it. A few simple yet effective upgrades so far have seen the dizzy removed, and replaced with a crank-angle sensor and four Commodore coil packs to accommodate the factory twin-spark set-up which is, let’s be honest, a very cool feature. The chosen turbo at this stage is a T28 with a T3 flange, which sits on a top-mount manifold.
Hitech Motorsport is installing a Link G4 Storm ECU, which when tuned with 14psi of boost should hopefully churn out around 200kW at the rear wheels. Trevor plans to forge the spare 3T-GTE engine he has, along with installing a few other upgrades to reach that magic 300kW number.
The Carina is sitting low, with the cross member a mere 40mm off the ground, and it’s all legal. It will receive a quick panel and paint before Christmas, but Trevor plans to take on a bare-metal respray next year.
