Stuart Henderson is no stranger to power, what with a Toyota JZX110 as a daily driver, so for his weekend toy he knew things would need to be a little more on the wild side. Yes, Toyota AE85s have been done before, but most have been fitted with turbocharged 4AGE engines or something of a similar nature from Nissan: it’s not often you see a quadcam Toyota 1UZFE V8 shoehorned in-between the strut towers. Stuart decided upon a late-model 1UZ-FE engine with VVT-i producing a very responsive 220kW (295hp) at the wheels thanks to simple upgrades to the intake and exhaust system. The V8 will have that signature intake bark thanks to the custom RB26 individual throttle body set-up. To improve handling, a full roll cage will be fabricated, turning this old chassis into a rigid racer. The front Silvia S13 Zeal coilovers are wound down on top of a set of 15x10-inch (-15) Rays Volk Mesh 2 wheels, with a rear set measuring 12 inches wide tucked under those guards thanks to a set of Integra DC5 coilovers.

Stuart’s future plans include a full rewire, a new ECU, a large wing, plenty of ducting, a full respray and a big front brake set-up. South Islanders watch out for this ’85 at a track near you once it’s completed.
