When running an 11.03-second quarter-mile in your Toyota Corolla KE25 just doesn’t quite cut the mustard, you do what Ryan Dorricott decided to do — bolt a Garrett GT42 on the side of your engine. Ryan has owned this KE25 Corolla for some time now, and has seen plenty of action down the strip with the old engine set-up, which was a stock Series 4 RX-7 block with a Garrett T51R turbo that made 220kW at the wheels on 10psi.
The new set-up will be much wilder, Ryan told us. “We will be running a brand-new 13B bridge-port block with a GT42 turbo, 50mm Turbosmart wastegate, custom intake, and 100mm throttle body.” Ryan is hoping the setup, complete with copious amounts of E85, will net him a huge 420kW at the wheels, 200kW more than the previous arrangement. This much power in the old 800kg chassis wouldn’t be a good idea without any sort of suspension and rigidity upgrades, so the chassis has been seam welded, and the Corolla now runs custom XYZ coilovers and FD RX-7 brakes all round. You may have seen it at the V 4&Rotary Nationals at its debut.
