The Surgery Sprints Series has been a feature of the local club-racing calendar for over 20 years now. It was set up as a low-key event for those wanting to get into motorsport without the pressure of intense competition. The format is simple: a pair of vehicles is released onto the track at 10-second intervals and complete three laps from a flying start. Points are awarded based on the lap times a driver achieves and go towards individual and club prizes. Entry requirements are also basic, requiring vehicles and drivers to have road-legal tyres, fire-resistant overalls, a helmet, a fire extinguisher fitted (with a metal bracket), a roll cage for open-top cars and a MotorSport New Zealand licence (day licences available). Head to thesurgery.co.nz to enter — driver entry fee of $90 applies.
