Last issue we reported that Kiwi wheelman Nick Cassidy would team up with Japanese driver Ryo Hirakawa to contest the Super GT Championship for team TOM’S in a Lexus LC 500. The season could not have kicked off better for Cassidy, after a brilliant drive by the Kiwi secured the round one win at Okayama. “We knew we had a great chance coming into the weekend, the confidence was there, but the conditions were so different from when we were fastest in testing here,” said the Aucklander and two-time Toyota Racing Series Champion.

“I still can’t believe that we won. The feeling is simply amazing,” he said. “It’s so difficult to overtake here, so I attacked from lap one.”

The championship now moves to Fuji Speedway, where the car will have to carry 40kg weight ballast as a penalty for winning, the aim being to keep the racing as close as possible.

They live stream the events, so to check out the series, and the young Kiwi in action, get your Google on.
