TIME TO MOUNT UP

-

Now you’ll need to build the mount for the dial indicator. We picked up a cheap gauge locally for $47 including GST, which has 10mm of movement, although we did find cheaper versions on the internet, and of course uber-expensive versions that are far better quality, but, for what we’re doing, the cheapy is fine in our books. The mount is two part, with a horizontal base and a vertical. Both are U-shaped bars of alloy or steel tube. We used steel box, as that was what was in the off-cuts bin at our local supplier. This sits under the hub and will need to extend under the car long enough to allow your trolley jack to slide in and out as it jacks the hub. The width should be such that it allows your dial indicator to line up with the measurement marks on your hub plate once mounted. The length of the vertical piece should be sufficient that your dial gauge can mount in line with the centre of your hub plate at ride height.
