AUCKLAND RUGBY LAUNCHES STREAMING OF 1ST XV RUGBY
When the whistle blows to start the first game of the 2015 uNITec 1A rugby competition, a new initiative from Auckland Rugby will also kick off.
1STXVTV is a new streaming service that will see greater coverage than ever before of what is arguably the strongest schoolboy competition in the world.
Many supporters already enjoy the excellent live coverage offered by SKY TV. Now with 1STXVTV supporters will be able to use their smartphone, tablet, computer or Internet enabled TV to see a weekly schedule that includes:
• Match of the Day – TV broadcast quality HD live coverage of a game between two of Auckland’s 1A schools.
• Weekly Review Show – featuring highlights from the Match of the Day plus tries and key action from the other matches played that weekend.
• Supporting content – interviews with players and previews of upcoming fixtures.
The coverage will be presented via a dedicated YouTube channel.
The Auckland competition has twelve teams battling for the coveted 1A title. It has over a century of tradition and has produced in excess of 100 All blAcKS. The envy of schoolboy competitions around the world, it draws large sideline crowds. Now it can be taken to a much wider audience, in Auckland, New Zealand and overseas.
“This is a great development for the 1A competition, and for secondary school sport in Auckland generally,” says Mike leach, Principal of King’s college and chair of the Auckland Secondary Schools Heads Association.
Auckland Rugby engaged with the Principals of the schools early in the development stages of 1STXVTV ensuring overwhelming buy-in and an efficient operational approach. The project will also see selected students taking subjects such as Media Studies have the chance to go behindthe-scenes to get some television production and media training.
ARU Chairman Glenn Wahlstrom says 1STXVTV will be a great experience for the players. “We’ve seen that with SKY’s coverage in recent years. but this will enable us to showcase more teams every week and for the wider school communities to enjoy the amazing atmosphere and excitement of the uNITec 1A competition. We imagine that old boys across the globe will become ardent fans of the shows. And clearly Social media will become an important conduit for connecting these fans with each other and back to their schools”, says Wahlstrom.
