DON’T BE DRIVEN BY MONEY
Rugby teams across New Zealand have taken the collective view that they won’t compete for young players on a financial basis. Instead, the point rugby tries to get across is that if players are patient and follow the career path, they will be making good money in a relatively short space of time. The NRL and other codes have a di erent view – and they do o er young players what seems like a considerable amount of money in their first year out of school. But it’s worth asking questions about how many young players push onto the NRL from Academy programs and what sort of money they can expect to be earning in three years.
