After a successful season last year, which saw them win the Hurricanes tournament, lose the Wellington final to St Pats Town and the top four final to Rotorua Boys’, this year shapes as a rebuilding season for Scots. But they should still be right in the mix. In NZ schools prop Alex Fidow and the Umaga-Jensen twins – Peter, captain of the Hurricanes under 18s, and Thomas – Scots have lost three of the best secondary players in New Zealand. Locks Henry Mexted and Jarimar Schuster have also departed, but loose forward trio Harry Saker, Ezra Dunlop and Jack Loader are back. Little will change in the way they approach the game. With strike weapons in the backline Scots will again favour an expansive, wide game. Traditionally, they love to have a crack and run from anywhere which makes them a di cult prospect to plan for and defend against. Tai Neli, a short midfielder with exceptional feet, speed, and good ball skills is a key recruit from Aotea College.
