Tyler Ardron is Canada’s 23-year-old captain. After 17 tests since 2012 the loose forward is a young leader and the Ospreys are also grooming him to be their future skipper. His Ospreys teammate, Jeff Hassler, is another talent; Canada’s player of the year in 2014 who scored six tries in 11 games on the wing for Ospreys last season. Taylor Paris is likely to start on the other wing. Nathan Hirayama has been injured and Canada needs his playmaking skills on the pitch.
A GOOD TOURNAMENT FOR THEM?
It’s fair to say Canada has landed a decent pool. Only New Zealand’s could be considered weaker. Ireland and France will probably be out of their league, though anything is possible with the French. They did, after all, lose to Tonga in New Zealand four years ago. Romania is a winnable game and Canada also have a chance against Italy.
ONE WIN OVER ROMANIA and close encounters with Italy and France to finish third in the pool. Canada are ranked 17th in the world and such results could only be considered par for the course. Anything else would be a major surprise.
