We have to keep reminding ourselves this guy is only 20. Seriously, he’s starred at a Wellington Sevens, played at the Olympics and become a regular and hugely influential All Black before his 21st birthday to make us wonder what we have been doing with our lives.
It wouldn’t be right to say he came of age this year, but he certainly established himself as a star All Black with a major public profile.
He started the season by scoring a hattrick in the opening Super Rugby game and never looked back. All year he scored crucial tries which were a result of his pace, power and awareness.
When the All Blacks needed something to happen, he made it so. If anyone was daft enough to give him space to run, he would cut them open.
He was more than a finisher, though. He was rock solid under the high ball, defended supremely well – especially in his ability to come o the line and wrap up the ball carrier – and he never stopped working.
