He played a cou­ple of tests last year at cen­tre, but Seta Ta­mani­valu, in shift­ing to the Cru­saders, in­ad­ver­tently rein­vented him­self as a power wing. And a good one at that.

He proved that wing is more his po­si­tion. He was able to bet­ter use his ob­vi­ous run­ning power and pace, and he scored reg­u­larly for the Cru­saders and gave them a de­struc­tive force that helped them win the ti­tle.

It was ap­par­ent that, by the end of the year, he had climbed some way up the wings’ peck­ing or­der and will be push­ing for a reg­u­lar All Blacks squad place next year.
