The Potential Arrival of Amazon as a Broadcast Rights Bidder

NZ Rugby World - - 2017 The Year In Review -

Sky have had exclusive rights to New Zealand rugby since 1996. They have done a superb job and while there is clearly an anti-Sky thing going on in some quarters of the media, we here at NZ Rugby World don’t have any time for that.

We are not anti-Sky but can see that the possible entry of the enormously wealthy Amazon into the broadcast rights market could be hugely beneficial for the All Blacks and great for consumers.

It could also be great for Sky as Amazon are most likely only interested in owning international digital rights to the All Blacks.

And how to do we know they may be interested? Because they spent this year making an eight-part behind the scenes documentary about the All Blacks that will go to air next year.
