All Blacks and Springboks Rivalry

NZ Rugby World - - 2017 The Year In Review -

Some nay-sayers reckoned this classic rivalry was dead after the All Blacks posted a record 57-0 victory in Albany. Ridiculous.

These days those sorts of results can happen all too easily. It’s the nature of the game and the All Blacks only need a handful of chances to run up a cricket score.

It was, then, hugely pleasing to see the Boks storm back a few weeks later in Cape Town and take the game to the wire. It was a classic contest that reminded everyone of the days of old – two iconic teams, giving it everything and playing with an obvious and deep mutual respect for one another.

With a bit of luck the Boks would have won – but they made their point...that they are a valid, honest and worthy opponent.
