NEW ZEALAND 46 IRELAND 14

-

There were all sorts of storylines leading into this game to make it arguably the most fascinating of the quarter-finals. Ireland, of course, had become something of a nemesis for the All Blacks having beaten them twice in their last three encounters.

That created this sense that Ireland, regardless of their World Cup form which had seen them lose to Japan, were capable of making it three wins against the All Blacks.

But the All Blacks had other ideas and they came out determined and ruthless. The forwards destroyed the Irish pack in every facet and the backs, with time and space, showed all sorts of creative talent.

It was a riot. Not even close as the All Blacks demolished Ireland within half an hour, leading 22-0.

A couple of tries after the break ensured the win was in the bag.
