Com­pe­ti­tion is a se­ri­ous busi­ness, just ask the guys top­ping the leader board mid­way through the 2017 Main­land Su­per­winch Chal­lenge. Here they are, Scotty and James, pic­tured do­ing bat­tle at the re­cent event held in Christchurch, ( an event they won). When asked, Scotty replied “sure I’m se­ri­ous, se­ri­ous about keep­ing it sim­ple, us­ing gear I can trust and I se­ri­ously like to be re­laxed when com­pet­ing.” When it comes to the winch, Scotty chooses Su­per­winch, the per­for­mance and re­li­a­bil­ity af­fords him all the con­fi­dence he needs to re­lax and to suc­ceed. Sh­effield Mud Plug 2017; hosted by and all pro­ceeds to Sh­effield Vol­un­teer Fire Brigade and Malvern Or­der of St John. Held at John Bull farm, cnr of Main West Coast Road and Waimak Gorge Road, Sh­effield. This event is not de­signed for fam­ily ve­hi­cles; suit­abil­ity of ve­hi­cles will be at or­gan­iser’s dis­cre­tion. Crash hel­mets and seat belts must be worn. No dogs or or al­co­hol. Hot food and Drinks will be avail­able to pur­chase on the day. $ 10.00 gate en­try for all ex­tra pas­sen­gers on the day. Chil­dren un­der 12 free. En­tries will be lim­ited to 45 ve­hi­cles and will close off at 9.15am on the day ( if any spa­ces left.) 8.30 am sign in and ve­hi­cle check­ing, 9.45 am brief­ing, 10.00 am start two rounds of com­pe­ti­tion. ‘Bat­tle of the Palace’ Teams Event 2017 at Pos­sum Palace, North­land. Open to all com­peti­tors who are mem­bers of the New Zealand 4wd As­so­ci­a­tion (NZFWDA). Ve­hi­cles will have to meet Nor­west OHV Club re­quire­ments and a min­i­mum re­quire­ment of ex­treme mud tyres. More in depth de­tails are in­cluded with the en­try forms. Gates open on Fri­day 20th Oct, com­pe­ti­tion runs over Sat 21st and Sun­day 22nd Oc­to­ber (Mon­day 23rd is a hol­i­day). All Com­peti­tors are in with a chance of a spon­sor prize as driv­ers names are drawn ran­domly, so whether you’re first or last you could still walk away with the top prize. Round One; A Na­tional 4x4 Trial is based upon the abil­ity of Com­peti­tors to drive their ve­hi­cles over dif­fi­cult ter­rain, in­clud­ing hill climbs, wa­ter cour­ses, mud bogs, up steep hills, over rocks, ruts, along banks and a speed sec­tion. Open to the pub­lic and spec­ta­tor friendly, the NZ Na­tional 4x4 Tri­als Se­ries com­prises of one-day events hosted by NZFWDA af­fil­i­ated Clubs around the coun­try. 42 Tra­verse Work­ing Bee; or­gan­ised by Friends of 42 Tra­verse in con­junc­tion with DoC. The plan is to try to get a re­ally good num­ber of peo­ple to tackle the veg­e­ta­tion along the stretch of track from the ‘Look­out’ down to the Waione Stream. We would start from the pumice pit on Kapoors Rd. Start time on the Satur­day might be 9.30am to al­low peo­ple to drive from sur­round­ing re­gions if they wish, oth­er­wise sug­gest overnight­ing at Na­tional Park, with the aim of do­ing a few more hours on Sun­day be­fore head­ing away in the early af­ter­noon. Any as­sis­tance is wel­comed. DoC will do a health and safety brief­ing on the Satur­day morn­ing and a check on the com­pe­tency of the op­er­a­tors of chain­saws. There will be t wo op­tions avail­able for ac­com­mo­da­tion and meals; Bar­rack ac­com­mo­da­tion and meals: You sleep in Army bar­racks on Fri­day and Satur­day night, plus re­ceive Army cooked meals on Satur­day and Sun­day morn­ing and a cooked meal on Satur­day night. You will be pro­vided with a cut lunch for Satur­day and Sun­day. Self-cater­ing and camp­ing: On the Sports ground just down the side road from the Army Mu­seum and pro­vide all your own meals. Show­ers and toi­lets will be sup­plied. Pric­ing; Of­flim­its is a char­i­ta­ble trust and our mis­sion is to raise money to sup­port the health and wel­fare of ser­vice­men and women.
