Further to our range launch story in the Feb 18 mag, Toyota has officially launched its latest Hilux model, the range-topping SR5 Cruiser.

The new SR5 Cruiser sits above the SR5 and replaces the outgoing SR5 Limited in Toyota New Zealand’s 21-strong 2018 Hilux range. As revealed in our range launch story ( but not pictured because at that stage TNZ didn't have a finished example to show us) the new SR5 Cruiser is immediately distinguished by a bold new nose which features a larger, now lack hexagonal upper grille, revised front bumper design and heavily revised LED fog lights. “The Hilux benchmark has been raised again with a more aggressive style that will appeal to even more customers, and build on the long-standing Hilux attributes of being tough and unbreakable,” said Neeraj Lala, Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of new vehicle sales and product.

Bold statement

“SR5 Cruiser makes a bold statement with a tougher exterior design, first class safety, enhanced interior styling and the built- in strength that makes Hilux the first choice for customers who want a ute that looks good but can perform in demanding environments.” The Hilux SR5 Cruiser will be available as a double cab in 2WD PreRunner and 4WD configurations, with a six-speed automatic transmission. “More customers purchased Hilux in 2017 than in any other year in its history, featuring a level of loyalty not often seen in the car business,” said Mr Lala. “We expect the strong Hilux customer loyalty to continue in 2018 and beyond.” The new front end is complemented by 18-inch gloss metallic black alloy wheels with 265/ 60 tyres, black door mirrors, door handles, a new black rear bumper and distinctive SR5 Cruiser body graphics.

Black on black

The interior carries on the bold new look with black perforated, leather accented upholstery used throughout, including into the pillars and roof lining. The front seats are also heated. The SR5 Cruiser has a new instrument cluster with a revised tachometer and speedometer offset with piano black ornamentation to replace the silver highlights of the outgoing SR5 Limited model. A new MID opening screen sequence has been created for the SR5 Cruiser, while the new look is silhouetted on the back of the key.

The SR5 Cruiser variant is available in all seven Hilux colours. Standard features include cruise control, tilt and telescopic steering column adjustment, seven airbags, satellite navigation, LED headlights, day time running lights and fog lights, climate control air conditioning, rear differential lock, six speaker audio, reversing camera and a 3,500kg maximum braked towing capacity.
