The old ( or rather ‘retro’) mixed with the new at this year’s CRC Speedshow at the Auckland Showgrounds over the July 21/ 22 weekend.
Though there was lit tle there to attract hard-core
off-road types, there was enough to inform and entertain the average ‘ truck-owning’ Aucklander, from the first NZ appearance of HSV’s new RHD Silverado 4x4 ‘ute’ to the refurbished old-skool US 4x4 utes for sale by Magwarehosue.com which lined the main access way into the show and drew many approving ‘ohhhs’ and ‘ahhs’ from showgoers young, old and in-between.
Add in a guest appearance by Top Gear’s original ( black helmet and overalls) ‘ The Stig,’ former British F1 driver Perry McCarthy, a stand-alone hall dedicated to local Hot Rod cars and culture, and it was another excellent way to stay warm on a chilly midwinter’s weekend.
7: ECU Chips had company proprietor Jason Frost’s own daily driven Ford Ranger on his stand.
8: Tony McCall’s off-roader was repping sponsor the FPP Speedshop.
9: CTB RTR Ford Mustang drifter Fanga Dan Woolhouse had Ford’s new Ranger Raptor in his ‘compound’ by the exhibition area.
1: RHD Chevrolet Silverado shared the limelight on GIltrap Group stand in main hall with Lambo and Bentley exotica.
10: Nissan NZ-sponsored fellow drifter Darren Kelly also had his modded Nissan Navara tow vehicle fronting his pit.
3: Outside, meanwhile, Auckland wheel and tyre specialist Magwarehouse. com had several refurbished US muscle trucks like this Ford F150 on show and for sale.
6: Local wheel accessory success story Wheelbands used this supercharged Shelby version of Ford’s latest F150 to attract the crowds.
4: Retro theme continued inside as guys from Sign Formula wrapped this beautifully restored retro Ford F100 ute in a period patina style.
5: Burger Fuel had its custom fleet on show including this lifted and modded SWB Toyota FJ Land Cruiser.
2: Also on the Giltrap Group stand was new Holden Colorado-based SportsCat ute.
