The old ( or rather ‘retro’) mixed with the new at this year’s CRC Speedshow at the Auck­land Show­grounds over the July 21/ 22 week­end.

Though there was lit tle there to at­tract hard-core

off-road types, there was enough to in­form and en­ter­tain the av­er­age ‘ truck-own­ing’ Auck­lan­der, from the first NZ ap­pear­ance of HSV’s new RHD Sil­ver­ado 4x4 ‘ute’ to the re­fur­bished old-skool US 4x4 utes for sale by Mag­ware­ho­ which lined the main ac­cess way into the show and drew many ap­prov­ing ‘ohhhs’ and ‘ahhs’ from show­go­ers young, old and in-be­tween.

Add in a guest ap­pear­ance by Top Gear’s orig­i­nal ( black hel­met and over­alls) ‘ The Stig,’ former Bri­tish F1 driver Perry McCarthy, a stand-alone hall ded­i­cated to lo­cal Hot Rod cars and cul­ture, and it was an­other ex­cel­lent way to stay warm on a chilly mid­win­ter’s week­end.

7: ECU Chips had com­pany pro­pri­etor Ja­son Frost’s own daily driven Ford Ranger on his stand.

8: Tony Mc­Call’s off-roader was rep­ping spon­sor the FPP Speed­shop.

9: CTB RTR Ford Mus­tang drifter Fanga Dan Wool­house had Ford’s new Ranger Rap­tor in his ‘com­pound’ by the ex­hi­bi­tion area.

1: RHD Chevro­let Sil­ver­ado shared the lime­light on GIl­trap Group stand in main hall with Lambo and Bent­ley ex­ot­ica.

10: Nis­san NZ-spon­sored fel­low drifter Dar­ren Kelly also had his mod­ded Nis­san Navara tow ve­hi­cle fronting his pit.

3: Out­side, mean­while, Auck­land wheel and tyre spe­cial­ist Mag­ware­house. com had sev­eral re­fur­bished US mus­cle trucks like this Ford F150 on show and for sale.

6: Lo­cal wheel ac­ces­sory suc­cess story Wheel­bands used this su­per­charged Shelby ver­sion of Ford’s lat­est F150 to at­tract the crowds.

4: Retro theme con­tin­ued in­side as guys from Sign For­mula wrapped this beau­ti­fully re­stored retro Ford F100 ute in a period patina style.

5: Burger Fuel had its cus­tom fleet on show in­clud­ing this lifted and mod­ded SWB Toy­ota FJ Land Cruiser.

2: Also on the Gil­trap Group stand was new Holden Colorado-based Sport­sCat ute.
