‘Royals’ seek help
Perth: Western Australia’s Hutt River Province ‘‘royals’’ are calling for help after being ordered to pay more than $3 million in unpaid taxes.
Leonard Casley (91) proclaimed himself Prince Leonard when he set up the independent state at a
75sq km wheat property after a row over wheat production quotas in 1970, but recently abdicated, handing the crown to his youngest son Graeme (60).
A bailiff delivered the tax bill in February and this month, WA Supreme Court Justice Rene Le Miere ruled it must be paid, dismissing their arguments as irrelevant and gobbledygook.
